  • Professional Overview

Eric Stubenvoll concentrates his nationwide trial and litigation practice in products liability, professional negligence defense, construction litigation, transportation, and commercial litigation.

Eric is an experienced trial attorney with a long record of success in the courtroom. This includes serving as one of the principal trial attorneys for several plaintiff insurance companies in the case of Citgo Petroleum Corporation, et al. v. The  Babcock & Wilcox Company.  In that products liability case, a jury awarded the plaintiffs $387.4 million, the highest jury verdict ever in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.

Eric spends a great deal of time in his role as national counsel for several product manufacturers, overseeing their products liability cases across the United States.  He has successfully defended manufacturers of presses, manlifts, woodchippers, valves, chemicals, medical devices, commercial vehicles, truck and trailer components and various consumer products.

Eric also devotes a significant amount of his practice to representing architects, engineers, insurance brokers, attorneys and other professionals in actions alleging professional negligence and malpractice. A major part of this practice involves representing design professionals in contract payment disputes, personal injury cases, property damage suits, and design defect cases. Recent success has included two defense verdicts in AAA arbitrations, including a matter where an owner alleged that defective construction required millions of dollars in repairs.

Finally, as a commercial litigator, Eric represents companies and their directors and officers in shareholder derivative suits, breach of contract actions, corporate control contests, defamation and commercial tort actions, and other business litigation.  This has included the defense of numerous class actions.
