Just before joining O’Hagan Meyer, Ms. Bacon served as the first General Counsel for a statutorily-created, non-profit organization where she provided counsel on a full spectrum of legal, regulatory and compliance, and general corporate matters to the organization’s internal business units, executive director and board of governors. Ms. Bacon had oversight over company governance and established the first Governance Committee in the organization’s history while serving as the committee’s secretary. In collaboration with business operation leaders, Ms. Bacon assisted in developing appropriate internal processes to mitigate legal and business risks while facilitating the organization’s statutory purpose; provided legal counsel and support of organizational strategic initiatives to promote the organization’s long-term growth objectives, mission and vision; and monitored liability and assessed risk related to organizational policies and procedures to continuously improve the organization’s risk profile.
Ms. Bacon is proficient in federal and state civil litigation and has extensive experience representing nationally-recognized personal and commercial lines insurers in insurance defense; insurance coverage; fraud, criminal enterprises, SIU, and RICO; subrogation and declaratory judgment matters. She has successfully managed, defended, and prosecuted large dockets of cases of varying exposure through litigation resolution and has gained significant trial experience over the years. As a trial attorney, Ms. Bacon has successfully defended against and prosecuted SIU/insurance fraud claims and assisted clients in claims’ investigations of complex business litigation matters involving fraud, racketeering (federal RICO), criminal enterprise, wire fraud and interstate commerce. She has partnered with experts, private investigators, and local and federal law enforcement personnel to help achieve her clients’ goals of loss mitigation and recovery of wrongfully-obtained insurance payments. Ms. Bacon has also advised claims and in-house general counsel on regulatory and compliancy matters.
As a staunch advocate of professional ethics and high caliber legal services, Ms. Bacon has mentored junior associates and also advised and assisted in-house general counsel in developing retained counsel management guidelines, including development and implementation of litigation best practices, litigation tracking and reporting, counsel selection and management in order to maximize cost efficiencies.
During law school, Ms. Bacon externed for the Honorable Gerald E. Rosen of the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
Before practicing law, Ms. Bacon worked at Ford Motor Company providing program management oversight of the design, production and delivery of vehicle chassis components. In addition, she was responsible for reviewing and assessing critical design conflicts, developing risk assessment plans, and optimizing delayed component production. While at Ford, Ms. Bacon received the Ford Motor Company Recognition Award multiple times and served as a subject matter expert for the Global Product Development System Vehicle Engineering Task Force Project. She provided an important role on this task force, which was responsible for establishing company-wide best practices for vehicle engineering.
In addition to her automotive background, Ms. Bacon worked in the construction industry, acting as a project manager for extensive automotive plant electrical renovations, in the conveyor industry and in heavy underground construction of municipal sewer lines.
